More work

So I was discussing with Jo, and we thought we could work along the surrealist theme too. So I am now texting a picture.... that sounds odd.

(adding to this post.....)

So I'm not sure what kind of image to use , so I started with a cat.... I'm going to do a multi coloured cat, and then move on to a more surrealist type image.

JOHN HEARTFRIELD

one of the most famous DADAists i love is propaganda  and quintessential DADA style
this is also how i got the idea of the hilter head image

The ABC's OF DADA

watch and enjoy...and tell me what you think
Bodean

Doodle

Looking at the folded drawing that me alice and Ni all participated in...it reminded me of my all time favirote doddle that i drew when i was 17 ...during form time....taking the idea of the ready make and the portraites that we descused...its up to you guys what to make of it it but it really reminds me of college and being sentimental....hummmmm ive lost meself...i did have a point...i think it was to use some stuff that we already have to add to the portraites (if we do them) as portraites can be quite staged unless that the look your going for...anyway

hopes you like it
bodean

i really got into it...my friend also got bored and draw some of the sparkly bits on the left hand side :)

Self Portrait

here as some tickets and what no that i had in my room and tohand...it you could call it is a self portraite of the ready make.....making it veryVERY DADA anyway....this brings the idea of just callarging somethings that we already have say in our bags and then just simply scanning them in and having that as something.....or by collarging photo's of ourself though life as it where creating another form of self portrait.....anyway guys there another idea for the pot :)

we could also mix the two other :)

Text

i think that the hand wrigthing add a more
personal feel to the image

OKay....this was an idea brough on by the research on the blog...so i took some text from The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls by Emilie Autumn....she is my idol.....and i took the first work from each sentence on page one...i then re asembled them to try and make something more coheriant

this has been descused wether we should make the sentences of text (if used) wether to have them in some sort of coheriant form or if we should just leave then and allow the audiance to read it and make there own...if that makes sence...what i got from this also is that its better with printed text...but there is a thought process behind it which i think is DADA...however.....this was done before the hilter heads ....

Bodean

Hilter heads

This was inspired first when alice showed me the image of a large congress of polititions and of the royal head of state (Queen Elizabeth II) and then it made me think about the policical anti-propergander images of hilter, which ironicly now are seen as properganda images of the dictator...so making a humerious twist of this i have collarges together the two ideas into one

i think it needs something else maybe text but i still like it
its in A3 so the image is in to half's...dam A4 scanners lol

French Surrealist drawing

This is a drawing by Bow, Nie and myself (as Jo was away). I was reading up about the Exquisite Corpse game and this is our own version of the game. We folded up the paper so another person can't be influenced by the last image.
It reminds me of the work by the artist brothers, Jake and Dinos Chapman; that I saw in the Tate Modern (in one of the poetry and dream rooms).
It was fun drawing them and its unpredictable what people will draw, so its quite exciting to unveil them, as sad as that may sound.

More pictures

Ok so that is my lot. I found doing these images aloooootttt harder than the text. So i'll stick with text for the moment. I'm going to look up more dada made pictures, I think they have used paint or some such similar thing. That and I'll expand from the evening standard for my source!

Pictures

I'm still confused

on this blog!!!

Anyway.... I have no idea how much we're ment to put on here. I have research on the Exquisite Corpse Game, and the similar game, Consequences.

(i'll post it up if people feel it's going to be necessary!!)

Ok Dada/Dadaism: was a cultural movement more than an artistic one (as alice may have pointed out as she told me!) It originated in Zurich (Switzerland) during world war 2 as a kind of rebellion to the war and to show how they really didn't agree with it. They were primarily involved in the visual arts, literature and poetry, art manifestos, art theory and graphic design.(i'm not sure what is left after that list!)

They concentrated their anti war views through rejecting the standard art, and so became anti-artists. They influenced avant-gard, surrealism, something els that i wrote down that looks like nouveau surrealism, but this could be wrong, pop art and fluxus.

Fluxus is taken from the 'latin to flow' and was composed of artists, composers and designers. They are known for blending different mediums and disciplines (so they flow between the mediums and disciplines) It started in the 1960's. The movement it described as inter medium, the concept was divised by Dick Higgins to describe inter-disciplinery activities.

I have one Dada esque poem and will do 4 more and 4 in pictures.

As to concentrating on them making sense/being funny.... i'm not sure. Have you tried it yet jo from an article? I think it would be quite hard and even more time consuming, but we can try.

I must admit....

I must admit that, even though I understand that the dadaists wanted their poems, ect. to not make sense, i never understood it!
If they make sense they would be funny- I think we should focus on this...
Developing the ideas to make them more humorous and bizzar
Also, last semester I started reading a book about modern situationists and anarchistic currents which was vaugly interesting and not about what I expected. Il try and have another look at it, situationism though!
Some artists in the Tate modern around dada time and situationists using found posters. Il find my notes when I get back

Jo

Ps someone change the colour for me? Can't do it on my phone. Please

Dada Article

I made my own Dada style poem/article, I chose to do an article that was political as that what Dada's argued against.
Alice

Linder

Also in the Tate Britain
photos of the artist holding strips of magazine- collage within the photographs. This leads to the visuals of collage while keeping the flatness of the photograph

This is one of the images in the She/she series, each image had a plain black frame, some of the frames has a sentence or two of type. I like the fashion photography style of them, white back ground and stylistic makeup

More of her work can be seen on the tate britain website, as with Keith Piper

Jo

Artist I found

Keith Piper, This work can be seen in the Tate Britain and is called Go West Young Man
Dada collages using photographs and text. Pesonally i would like our work to be more 3D than this  but the use of text is nice, especially since some of it is hand written.I like the idea of drawing within out collages? Splitting though grids in each piece creates a solid feeling of similarity across the series (maybe we could consider something similar?)

Jo

why the dada destructionists?

Brief explaination-
We are a group of art students who are collaborating for one of our many projects this semester. Within the project we must make art! (duh...)
Basically the work we produce will reference the dada movement of art history which happened at the beginning of the 20th century, about 1916-22. Sometimes referred to as Anti-Art.
Our interest lies within the collage aspects used within the work created by the movement.
We will use this in our work, destroying (hence destructionists) and fusing imagery using a range of techniques
Hopefully we will do a photo shoot in the next couple of weeks and get the images up here asap

Jo

PS. Assuming the last post was Nie??- names might be good :p
I think the colours have been fading to gray because Alices and Bow's look the same now....

HILTER PROPERGANDER DADA ART..IS WHAT IM INTERESTED IN THIS WAS DONE BY Helmut Herzfeld AKA John Heartfield.....

i like the almost realistic look to the image...so looking for art more john heartfield rather the duchamp in style....because its not really me

Bow

Dada

As the first post on the blog (wooo), I'll just mention what ideas we had.
First, was the idea of destructing photos of ourselves, taking them about destroying sections and whole pieces and then putting them back together. To create one image that we had all worked on, that we can show in a gallery space.
Working from this idea, I thought it was similar to what the Dadaists were doing in the early 20th century. They rebelled against art and made what was known as anti-art. This also links with the work of Jake and Dinos Chapman, in terms of the idea I was thinking of.
When you fold a piece of paper; write like a noun, a verb, an adjective so that it creates a sentence that is nonsense.
Its a whimsical idea and I think we can all relate to that....
